TODAY'S QUOTEA

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” —John Stuart Mill

"I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way."

-- John Paul Jones (letter to M. Le Ray de Chaumont, 16 November

1778)

TODAY'S QUOTES

Thomas Paine
1776 - The American Crisis, No. 1

" Not all the treasures of the world, so far as I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder; but if a thief breaks into my house, burns and destroys my property, and kills or threatens to kill me, or those that are in it, and to "bind me in all cases whatsoever" to his absolute will, am I to suffer it? "

Thomas Paine
1777 - The Crisis, no. 4

" Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it. "

It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors."

-- George Washington (Thanksgiving Proclamation, 3 October 1789)

"How many observe Christ's birth-day! How few, his precepts! O! 'tis easier to keep Holidays than Commandments."

Gerald." Our " Ford

"I pronounce it as certain that there was never yet a truly great
man that was not at the same time truly virtuous."

-- Benjamin Franklin (The Busy-body, No. 3, 18 February 1728)

T
his has been an interesting  day or two in Grand Rapids MI. as we mourn the loss of " our " president who was raised here and served us greatly as a congressman and vice president and president. His body was  flown in Tuesday afternoon and was motorcaded to his museum where people could walk by and pay there last respects starting at 6:00 pm .
Well  people were lined up at 3:00 waiting to see him .Our family thought we would wait for the rush to go down as people got out of work so we went downtown at 10:00 and a police officer told that there was a 7 hour wait in line. That would be 5:00 am which would be time to leave for work so we went back home and thought about getting up at 3:00 and got back but there was still a 2-3 hour wait then. So about 8:00  the TV stations were reporting that there was a 1/2 hr wait so she packed up the kids and went down there . A lot of people must have heard that and by the time she got there the line was back up  to 2 hours.
we have heard that Mrs Ford has expressed her gratitude for all the people who have come to see her husband . Plus a couple of there sons where in line shaking hands as people filed through the museum .
People are also lining up to watch the 15 plane fly over by F-15's in the missing man formation at 3:00 when they play taps at the funeral at his  Gr church
I was in my early teens when he was President so I don't remember much but it has been touching to here all the people tell of  how President Ford touched their lives . It seems he truly tried to live the life of Jesus Christ to all his " Neighbors
